Sometimes, the most extraordinary chapters of our lives begin when we find the courage to step outside our comfort zones.

There is something truly special about taking a chance on an opportunity without knowing exactly where it might lead.Packing your bags, leaving behind everything familiar, moving to a different country, and stepping into an entirely new environment can be daunting. But sometimes, it becomes one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. And I know this because I’ve experienced it myself. When a Job Becomes So Much MoreHaving worked as a governess for high-profile families in the Middle East, I’ve been fortunate enough to experience incredible places, different cultures, and opportunities I once could only have imagined. But beyond the travelling and extraordinary experiences, something far more meaningful happened.I built relationships that I will treasure for the rest of my life.Working within a private household is unlike almost any other profession. You become part of a family’s daily life, sharing milestones, challenges, laughter, and special moments.Of course, professionalism, discretion, and boundaries are essential. But sometimes, what begins as a professional relationship develops into a genuine connection built on trust, kindness, and mutual respect. You can read more about my personal journey and the experience behind TRAM Recruitment.
Three Simple Words That Meant Everything:
Earlier this year, I closed a very special chapter when my time with a family who had become incredibly dear to me came to an end.I said my goodbyes in May and continued focusing on growing TRAM Recruitment.Recently, however, I received a message from my former principal.A friend of hers was looking for a maternity nurse, and she wanted to know which contact details she could pass along.Naturally, I was delighted that she had thought of me and my business. But it wasn’t the referral that touched my heart the most.It was what she said afterwards.“We miss you.”Three simple words. And yet, they meant so much. When I mentioned that perhaps I could visit sometime, her excitement was genuine. That little interaction reminded me that although my contract had ended, the relationship we had built hadn’t disappeared. The memories, kindness, and mutual respect were still there. And to me, that is something truly beautiful.Sometimes, You Have to Take the LeapI often wonder how different my life would have been if I had never taken the chance to work abroad.I would never have met some of the extraordinary people I’ve known, experienced different cultures, or built relationships that remain so meaningful to me today. And that’s something I wish more people understood about stepping outside their comfort zones. It’s not always about the salary, the destination, or the job title.Sometimes, it’s about the person you become, the confidence you develop, and the people who leave a lasting impression on your heart. For those considering an international career, I’ve shared more about what it’s like working as a South African governess in Saudi Arabia. Why Finding the Right Governess MattersToday, as the founder of TRAM Recruitment, my personal experiences have shaped the way I approach recruitment.I understand what it feels like to enter a new household, adapt to a different culture, and become part of a family’s everyday life. But I also understand how important it is for a family to welcome someone they can genuinely trust. When hiring a governess, families aren’t simply looking for qualifications and experience. They’re looking for someone who will support their children’s education, development, and wellbeing while respecting their household’s values and lifestyle. The right governess brings more than professional skills. She brings patience, kindness, emotional intelligence, discretion, and genuine care. And when the right match is made, the outcome can be truly extraordinary. This is why our private household and governess recruitment services focus on finding professionals who are not only qualified but also genuinely suited to each family’s individual needs.Looking for an Exceptional Governess for Your Family? At TRAM Recruitment, we specialise in connecting private, VIP, VVIP, ultra-high-net-worth, and royal families with carefully selected governesses, nannies, and private household professionals. With firsthand experience working within high-profile private households, I understand the importance of trust, discretion, professionalism, and finding the right personality for your family.Whether you’re looking for an experienced governess, a dedicated nanny, or someone who can travel internationally with your family, we would be delighted to assist.Enquire About Hiring a Governess with TRAM Recruitment
A Final Thought:
If there’s one thing my journey has taught me, it’s that some of life’s most beautiful experiences begin with a little courage. The courage to leave what’s familiar, embrace something different, and say yes to an opportunity that might just change your life.Looking back, the most valuable things I’ve gained haven’t always been the places I’ve travelled to or the positions I’ve held. They’ve been the people I’ve met, the relationships I’ve built, and the memories I’ll carry with me forever. And sometimes, hearing three simple words — “We miss you” — is all the reminder you need that taking that leap was worth it. “We Miss You.” — Three Words That Reminded Me Why the Right Governess Can Change a Family’s Life

For many families across Saudi Arabia — and increasingly, for high-net-worth and royal households — a governess plays a far bigger role than the word “nanny” suggests. It’s a position that blends education, childcare, household coordination, and cultural sensitivity, and it’s one of the most rewarding (and demanding) roles in private household staffing. For our current opportunities click here.Whether you’re a family considering hiring a governess, or a candidate weighing a move to Saudi Arabia, here’s an honest look at what the role actually involves. What Does a Governess Actually Do?A governess is not simply a babysitter. The role typically covers:•Educational support — supervising schoolwork, tutoring, structuring learning activities, and sometimes managing a full home-schooling curriculum•Child development — shaping routines around discipline, manners, language learning, and social skills•Household coordination — working alongside nannies, drivers, and other household staff to keep the children’s day running smoothly•Cultural and language guidance — many families want their children exposed to English, French, or other languages, alongside local customs and etiquetteIn wealthier households, a governess is often treated as a senior member of staff, reporting directly to the parents rather than a house manager.Lifestyle and Living ArrangementsMost governess placements in Saudi Arabia are live-in positions, with private accommodation provided within the family home or private accomodation close to the home. Employers typically also provide:•Flights (often including paid annual leave and return flights home)•Meals and private quarters•A vehicle or driver (transportation)•Health insurance and, in many cases, an educational or professional development allowanceWorking hours can be long and the role is genuinely full-time — this isn’t a 9-to-5 job. Flexibility and patience are essential, and the best governesses build the kind of trust that keeps them with a family for years.Cultural ConsiderationsSaudi Arabia has its own customs and expectations, and this is where cultural sensitivity really matters:•Dress codes tend to be modest, particularly outside the home•Family life is private, and discretion is highly valued — confidentiality isn’t optional, it’s expected•Religious observance (prayer times, Ramadan, etc.) shapes the household rhythm, and a governess is expected to respect and work around this•Gender norms can affect day-to-day logistics, from transport to who a governess interacts with outside the homeGovernesses who thrive in these placements are usually those who approach the culture with genuine curiosity and respect, rather than treating it as an inconvenience.Have a look at my blog post, I talk about my personal experience as a governess for a royal family, "First Hand Governess Experience." Why Families Choose a Governess Over a NannyFor UHNW and royal households in particular, a governess offers something a standard nanny role doesn’t: a structured, educational, and long-term presence in a child’s life. Families often want:•Continuity — the same trusted figure guiding a child’s development over several years•Multilingual exposure from an early age•A level of formality and professionalism suited to a large household with multiple staff members•Someone who can represent the family’s values and standards, both in the home and while travellingIs It the Right Fit for You?For candidates, a governess role in Saudi Arabia can be an incredible opportunity — competitive compensation, the chance to work with distinguished families, and a genuinely enriching cultural experience. But it does require adaptability, discretion, and a real commitment to the family you’re placed with. For families, finding the right governess is about far more than qualifications on paper. Fit, trust, and cultural alignment matter just as much as experience — which is exactly where the right placement partner makes the difference.Need more information on our recruitment services?
